Interesting point; I agree that some of the best hires I’ve run into come from programs like Waterloo which promote multiple internships (e.g. semester at Microsoft; a year later, a semester at a startup; etc). Paint me cynical, but I do think the company that comes out ahead most in this process is usually the one who gets the intern last, when that person is closest to graduation — because the relationship is fresh it’s the most likely to convert.
